How to tie a ribbon bow and what to use ribbon for other than gifts

Knowing how to tie a ribbon is really important in life, I mean relatively speaking. Mastering the skill of making small talk, cooking, public speaking, quitting a bad habit, etc. might be a little more important, but it’s a skill that comes in handy throughout life, and it gets you noticed!

How to tie a bow (the Lorele way)

1_Buying wired ribbon makes it so easy, and allows you to shape the bow how you want it.

2_For a medium size bow, cut a piece about 2 yards long (more if you want a larger bow), and another piece around 12” long.

3_In your left hand hold the 2 yards of ribbon and hold it 12” (ish) from the bottom of the ribbon; this creates your first tail. (if you’re a south paw, reverse)

4_Make your top loop and keep face sides up.

5_Make a bottom loop, keeping face sides up and pinch in the center (picture a figure 8).

6_Continue this process with as many loops as you want in your bow.

7_Make one final little loop on top. Begin by twisting the ribbon so the back side of the ribbon is showing. When you make the little loop, the face side will appear.

8_Now run your smaller cut 12″ piece of ribbon through the little loop.

9_Turn over the entire bow and tie the 12” ribbon to create 2 more tails and also to secure your bow.

10_Twist and shape ribbon as needed so that all right sides are up.

11_Gain the respect of friends, family and colleagues (see I told you those other skills were overrated)!

Where else can you use ribbon?

  • Tuck it into your tree
  • Wind it through your garland
  • Wrap it around your artwork and tie a bow
  • Leave it hang off your stairway garland
  • Tie up your table settings
  • Use it to finish off your napkins
  • Band it around your candles
  • Tie up your dining room chairs
  • Make a ribbon chain for your kids’ windows
  • Wrap your doors or “X” your windows
  • Hang ornaments off of your drapery rod
  • Run them down your kids’ tree vertically for a colorful statement
  • Hang a wreath
