Over the next few days of posts I am going to tell you everything I think that you will need to know about “the Christmas tree”. It becomes the center of attention, it is tradition, it brings back memories, and also brings out the kid in you. If trees are your thing, you will love the next few days.

Today we are going to talk about trees and the perfect location- answer? Everywhere. I have had as many as 12 trees in my home before (exhausting). Here’s how:

Entry Parlor-3 varied sizes of trees, Great Room– 1 big tree, Dining Room-2 topiary trees, Master Bedroom-1 tree, Guest Rooms-1 tree, Loft-1 tree, Basement-1 tree

Here are some rules I use when setting up trees:

Don’t block natural light. Some people like trees in front of a window, which is fine, but make sure there is another source of natural light in the room so you don’t go dark over the holidays.

Don’t block pathways – you will come to hate your tree if you have to constantly walk around it. My only exception to this is a low traffic area. In other words, if you have a huge entry way (you know who you are), put the tree smack dab in the middle. It almost becomes like a foyer table or centerpiece. What a fabulous first impression. (Bet you’re glad I put a floor plug there in your electrical walk-thru, huh)? Outside of that, I love trees tucked in.

Move your Furniture- This can breathe a new energy in the home. Think outside the box and move your furniture around for a new look for a while.

1_If you have 2 love seats cornered in a hearth room- put them across from each other for the holidays and plant the tree in the corner.

2_If you have a chair or loveseat in the master bedroom, move it to storage for the holidays and replace it with a tree, or do a smaller tree and nestle the chair into it- It would look great there with a beefy, thick fur throw (yes, we have those at Lee Douglas).

3_If your dining room permits, get two topiary trees or slim line trees. You can get great pots (at Lee Douglas) and fill the base of them with fresh greens or over the top ornaments. Upside down wall mounted trees can be a blast in the corners of the room too.

4_Every room where your family hangs out needs a tree, so don’t forget the basement.

5_Trees can make any living space comfy, cozy and fun. There are Christmas palm trees, pillar trees, upside down trees, slim lines for space restrictions, topiary trees, and woodland trees. Whether your tradition is to cut down your tree or rescue it from the box- life is short, go overboard!
