Change your drapes without changing your drapes

Custom draperies are like chameleons, they adapt to their environment. They can enhance the view by framing the window, they can provide privacy, and they can even absorb sound and insulate a room by absorbing heat and cold. Above all, they are the decorative detail that adds expression and personality to your space. But…what do they do for me at the holidays?

Draperies provide the perfect canvas for an amazing work of art. Check this out:

Rod Treatments

1_If you have stationary draperies (in other words, they aren’t draw drapes and don’t move) run an artificial garland across the top of your rod. Once the base of garland is there, you are ready for some fun.

2_Use crystal, metallic, natural, or whatever you like across the garland, or let them fall off of the garland vertically.

3_You can use ornaments, ribbons, pine cones, small children, etc.

4_Using the artificial garland fingers, wire everything down to the base to prevent it all from falling off.

Tie Backs

1_Whether you have elegant tie backs or not, you can have them at Christmas. Use a segment of artificial garland or an artificial swag as the tie back.

2_Put an eye screw behind your drapery panel. You want to hold the outside edge of the drapery straight and tight and put the screw in the wall at the height you want. If you put it further in toward the window, it pulls the edge of your drapery closer in (which you don’t want).

3_Connect the swag or garland to your eye screw forming your tieback.

4_Use the same items as above to adorn the tie back and wala!

The following are some ideas to get you going:

If you are Contemporary/Modern- a great rod garland with iron sculptural ornaments says, “I got it going on”.

If you are Traditional- crystal garlands, animal print and artificial fruit says, “Yep, I get it”.

If you are Rustic/Country- large pine cones and buffalo check ribbon says, “I’m with it”.

If you are Shabby Chic- white linen ribbon and rattan ornaments says “I’m cool”.

If you are Industrial- wooden initials and metal pieces says, “Nailed it”.

If you are English country- books, and antique small trophies says, “Bloody good” (in an English accent).

If you are Vintage- metal signs and antique mirror ornaments says, “I rock”.

If you are Southwestern– succulents, colored burlap ribbon and artifacts, “I’m hot”.

If you are Victorian- velvet bows, pearls and lace says, “I’ve got class and sass”.

If you are Eclectic- do whatever you want, just make it answer to another element somewhere.

Get it? Look at your style and add more of it to your drapes. You will get the “wow” and get a whole new drapery just for the holidays.

You’ve got this!
